About STW Partnership
The Dutch Technology Foundation (STW) initiated the STW Partnership program for stimulating more effective cooperation between industry and academia. STW found a partner in the company Danone. The Program -in which industry is to propose the program theme- invites Dutch universities to submit PhD and Postdoc proposals in a tender.
About Danone
Danone S.A. is a worldwide leading company specialised in the manufacture and supply of fresh dairy products, beverages, baby food and medical nutrition, those products being associated with the values of quality and health. Danone Research Centre is presently located in Wageningen but from 2012 located in Utrecht and carries out the corporate R&D for the Danone on Baby and Medical nutrition. The major focus areas of Danone-Research Centre for specialised Nutrition are linked to immunology, neurology and metabolism. Danone is interested in research and development of neuro-immune-gut interactions as target for specialized and disease specific nutrition.
| The goal of this Partnership Program is twofold:
1) to link different expertises and know how i.e. immunology, neurology, endocrinology, physiology, metabolism, (epi-) genetics to each other in order to sustain and understand the process from ingredients to specialized nutrition products with a health benefit.
2) to understand the role of the gastro-intestinal tract in modulating neuro-immune interactions affecting metabolic disorders, diseases and health, with the aim to define and design the process from ingredients to specialized products with a health benefit. |
The Challenge
This program addresses some scientific challenges in the area of specialized human nutrition. The major scientific challenge is to bring/link different disciplines together in order to develop the best multifactorial therapy for immune-, neuro or metabolic- related diseases such as: chronic inflammation, allergies, astma, stress, obesity and its link to various metabolic diseases such as type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease, cachexia, autism and neuro-degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease

Unique Aspects of Partnership
- Operate as one large team of university researchers together with the researchers of Danone Research Centre
- The team constitutes a coherent effort to contribute to the challenges put forward by Danone
- Management and administration of project (proposals) is according to usual STW procedures
- Scientific quality of the project execution is safeguarded and guided by university professor project applicants
Projectvoorstellen welkom
Trekker van dit programma is prof. dr. J. Garssen van Danone. De programmacommissie nodigt geïnteresseerde universiteiten van harte uit om zich aan te sluiten bij het programma.
50% van het programmabudget wordt bijgedragen door Danone.
Het is noodzakelijk om een pre-proposal in te dienen voorafgaand aan een full proposal.
Full proposals bevatten een beschrijving van o.a. het voorgestelde onderzoek, de beoogde toepassing en het geschatte budget in 12 A4 pagina's. Voor details zie Annex 2 van de "Call for pre-proposals Danone". De volledige programmatekst vindt u in "Program description ".
