ARTEMIS: ARchitectures and meThods for Embedded MedIa Systems (AES.5021)
Project nummer:
aes5021
Omschrijving van het onderzoek
Modern embedded systems increasingly need to be able to cope with multiple standards and to support a wide range of applications. These systems require programmable components for their implementation, where reconfigurable hardware components can also be used for time-critical tasks without compromising flexibility. The different demands of target applications as well as the use of programmable and reconfigurable components in embedded systems complicates their design, where there are currently no mature tools available addressing these new aspects. The project will develop methods and techniques to support the design of highly programmable embedded systems. The result will be a workbench for system architecture design space exploration as well as an experimental framework for reconfigurable architectures. The combination of these two frameworks should allow for identifying computational intensive tasks in applications which are suitable for execution on reconfigurable hardware components. Additionally, support will be provided to evaluate embedded system architectures at multiple abstraction levels. For this purpose, the level of detail of architecture models must be adjustable in a seamless manner, such that the design space exploration can easily focus on the architectural aspects considered to be important. A prototyping activity will use the developed methods and techniques to prove their applicability on an industrially relevant application.
