Omschrijving van het onderzoek

The research focuses on parametric modelling of complex (sub-)systems, like aircraft, and the discretisation of these (sub-)systems for subsequent analysis and optimisation. Analysis and Optimisation of complex systems today needs a lot of costly and time consuming (re-) modelling ‘by hand’ to incorporate changing design parameter values. Cost and lead time could be significantly reduced if easy parametric modelling of the systems could be realized. The research will attempt to develop generic models based on Knowledge Based Engineering principles. With the results from the parametric modelling and the meshless methods a so-called Design and Engineering Engine (DEE) will be built that allows for automated analysis and optimisation of aircraft or similar complex systems on the conceptual design level. With the results the work of product developers can be better streamlined, transferred faster into products and knowledge can be re-used.
