Omschrijving van het onderzoek
The project aims at the development of potentially implantable intra-ocular adaptive optical system for the correction of presbyopia - age-related or post-surgery accommodation loss - and also at the correction of the higher order aberrations of the human eye. The research resulted in the development of a prototype of implantable liquid crystal intracular corrective lens, the wireless control unit for the control lens and also the extended knowledge on possible feedback strategies to control the intra-ocular adaptive optics.
Utilization
The demonstrator makes use of ubiquitos liquid crystal technology, similar to the one used in LC displays. The experience built up with the demonstrator will lead to the improvement of intra-ocular implantable lenses, making them applicable for presbyopia correction.
The project attracts international attention.
