Omschrijving van het onderzoek

The goal of this process intensification project is to design, develop, and demonstrate a microstructured device for chemicals synthesis and multiphase flow handling. In this device microprocessing and microwave heating will be integrated in one flow-through reactor. The project aims at establishing the technological scope and limitations of microwave enhanced microprocessing for large-scale synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals in microstructured reactors. Typical examples in the fine chemical synthesis covering green and smart process technologies have been selected that are suitable for demonstrating added value of adjusted microwave heating in tailor-made microreactors. These examples are dealing with chemistry and process intensification in a selective mono-ether synthesis, novel chemistry in selective transesterifications affording tert-butyl esters and finally, a future feedstock case to convert a multifunctional natural product into a versatile chiral building block for various pharmaceutical and agricultural applications.
