Model Reduction for Complex High-Tech Systems - Efficient Analysis of Active Multi-physical Systems (07788)

Project nummer: 07788

Omschrijving van het onderzoek

This project aims at the development of a model reduction methodology for multi-physical high-tech systems to support efficient simulation-based design of such systems. This project goal is motivated by the fact that, in many branches of industry, virtual design environments are being used to cope with the increasing complexity of designs, the higher demands on their quality, and the need for an efficient and effective design process ("first-time right"). However, for many high-tech systems, such as e.g. printers/copiers, precision motion stages, MRI scanners or microsystems, we have reached a stage that requires a design environment that can cope with the multi-physics aspects of the problem, reflecting the fact that the system operates in a multitude of physical domains (e.g. mechanics, electro-magnetics, acoustics, electro-statics).
The results of this project will be utilised in two ways. Firstly, the methods developed will be applied and evaluated by application to industrial systems exhibiting multi-field aspects. These industrial cases will come from the industrial users of this project.
Secondly, the model order reduction techniques developed throughout the project are very general in nature, and hence not application-specific. Therefore, they will be able to support the model order reduction of a wide variety of industrial multi-field systems. These methods will be implemented in a software platform which will be developed in close cooperation with the users. The dissemination of the software to the users or a wider market will also take place in consultation with the industrial users. If the feasibility of the methodology and related software has been shown, other firms may as well show interest to use the general applicable tool and methods.
