Omschrijving van het onderzoek

Within the new research group concepts and technologies for micro- and nano- scaled devices and systems shall be developed. Reducing the scales of devices or of critical dimensions in devices offers new opportunities. Today, micro- fabrication techniques are mostly derived from the silicon based microelectronics manufacturing. In our research we will develop alternative techniques for instance using ion beams, laser irradiation and molding processes. Such processes can be used to fabricate micro- or nano-systems that are based on a wider range of materials like polymers or glass. Moreover, actuator and sensor systems will be investigated where different functionalities such as optical, magnetic, mechanical and fluidic can be combined and integrated. Typical applications are bio-medical microsystems, micro-robots and disposable microsystems.
