Omschrijving van het onderzoek

In addition to the other project (GKG.5973) using videokymography, in this project methods are explored to visualize the vertical (in the direction of the camera system) dimension of the complex movements of the vocal folds during vocalization. Videokymography gives an image of the movements in horizontal direction, but another principle is needed to register the vertical dimension, i.e. in the direction of viewing the vocal folds. For this a laser light approach will be used. Measurements of actual and realistic distances deep in the larynx are difficult to measure. For voice-improving surgical procedures knowledge of this is of crucial importance. The knowledge of the relation between good or disordered voices and the vibration pattern of the mucosa of horizontal as well as vertical direction is essential in understanding the working of the voice organ.
