Daktulos: Functional probes for scanning probe microscopy made by three-dimensional corner lithography (11949)

Omschrijving van het onderzoek

In the Daktulos project, we will apply a recently discovered nano-fabrication technique to develop sophisticated probes with electronic functionality for scanning probe microscopy. We specifically target magnetic and thermal microscopy. In magnetic microscopy (scanning Hall) we will improve on the state-of-the art by enabling quantitative detection of magnetic stray fields with 10 nm resolution. In scanning thermal mi- croscopy we will explore probes for high speed measurements of surface temperatures at sub 100 nm resolution. The Daktulos project is defined in close cooperation with SmartTip, a spin-off company of our group specializing in functional probes for the micro- and nanotechnology industry. They are perfectly positioned to bring the new probes studied in this project to the market.
