Control of aerosol migration with temperature gradients (10103)

Omschrijving van het onderzoek

A computational multiscale model will be developed, predicting heat-transfer and particle removal efficiencies that are achievable with aerosols. The focus will be on flows under the influence of large temperature gradients. A key model element is the so-called 'thermophoresis'. This limits the heat that can be transferred to an aerosol-flow over a hot wall, or, the cleaning efficiency of separation devices involving flow over cold walls. Numerical simulation will be applied to capture the transport properties of the fluid flow. A discrete Lagrangian point-particle model will be used for the droplet/particle phase, including inertia and the explicit contributions from thermophoresis transport in a temperature gradient.
