Omschrijving van het onderzoek
The aim of the project is to investigate issues concerning the process of increasing areal and volume bit densities of magnetic mass storage. The work is divided in two mainstreams (covered by L.T. Nguyen and A. Hozoi, respectively). One research field concentrates on the study and development of thin-film tape media. Characterization of metal-particle tape media is also of interest. The other starts from physical aspects of the recording process and includes the study and optimization of linear and track densities and write/read recording heads.
