Electrokinetic separation techniques using pseudo- stationary phases for the profiling of pharmaceutical products (UAC.5897)

Project nummer: uac5897

Omschrijving van het onderzoek

The use of pseudo-stationary phases in capillary electrophoresis (CE) can provide powerful separation systems of high efficiency, selectivity and flexibility. Such electrokinetic chromatographic (EKC) systems might be particularly useful for the analysis of samples containing a broad range of compounds. In this project, the potential of various (new) pseudostionary phases for comprehensive sample profiling will be studied systematically. Using representative test mixtures, EKC systems will be characterised, compared and selected by applying objective selectivity and efficiency criteria. As the availability on mass and/or structural data on (unknown) constituents is crucial, the online coupling of EKC and mass spectrometry (MS) will be investigated thoroughly. The influence of type of pseudo-stationary phase, background electrolyte, ion source and composition of make-up liquid on the analyte signal and the interface performance will be established. Special attention will be devoted to polymeric pseudo-stationary phases which may offer both favourable separation characteristics and MS compatibility.
